GPS/GNSS Solutions
Oil & Gas
Offshore oil and gas production is constantly being refined through the support efforts of a great diversity of specialized vessels, barges, Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) structures and moving rigs.
A single operation carried out anywhere worldwide, from the North Sea to the Middle East to the Gulf of Mexico and in West Africa, typically reaches a cost of over $100,000 U.S. a day. Therefore, the availability of reliable and precise positioning is an absolute necessity for guaranteeing efficient and effective operations.
To meet these stringent demands, offshore positioning is typically based on the simultaneous and redundant use of two or three different kinds of systems. Differential GPS (DGPS) laser tracking systems and USBL acoustics are often combined in Dynamic Positioning (DP) and other critical operations. The growing need to move into deeper waters of 1000 meters and more makes DGPS a key technique for positioning vessels in these demanding conditions.
Most Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) and construction support operations, seabed surveys, pipe laying and rig move applications generally require 5-meter accuracy. Operators must observe at least two multi-link sources of positioning corrections and multi-reference real-time fix computations. The Magellan Marine Survey range leads the industry, simplifying the process by combining all the necessary characteristics in an integrated and compact solution.
The demand for level measurements in offshore activities is increasing almost daily, whether it be for dimensional control, for tilt and settlement structural surveys, or even for the more critical rig move operations. The Magellan AquariusTM with LRKTM technology provides a turnkey solution for these applications, guaranteeing the availability of kinematic DGPS data even in the most difficult environments.
Magellan offers a wide range of professional GPS solutions, ideal for Oil and Gas applications.
