Magellan Real Time Data Server (RTDS) is a new software offering land surveying companies the possibility of using GNSS equipment to build their own direct IP RTK corrections server.
The RTDS software will collect corrections sent by a GNSS base station and act as a gateway to make them available to any rover that connects to the software. Magellan RTDS is a PC software allowing communication between one base and many rovers. The base can be run on a permanent location (with a direct local connection to RTDS) or at remote locations (connected to RTDS through GPRS).
RTDS User Benefits
Magellan RTDS enables land surveyors to have an efficient alternative to RTK networks (public or private) and also solve radio propagation issues, provided a GPRS cellular network is available.
- RTDS extends the productivity of your GNSS equipment as it enables the connection of several rovers to one single base and can control several bases at the same time (multi-instances). RTDS brings you additional flexibility, as it's a new complementary way to deploy your crew in the field.
- When used with Magellan ProMark 500 receivers, RTDS provides a fully integrated solution for RTK surveying (no need for external radios thanks to the built-in GSM module).
- The RTDS solution is applicable to any RTK system. Using a GPRS communication link instead of radios will help to increase baselines and remove radio propagation issues in difficult environments.
General Principle
Base and rovers connect to RTDS through GPRS (cellular network). The only requirement is to install RTDS on a computer connected to the Internet through a static IP address. The IP address can be obtained from your IT administrator, or from the phone/Internet service provider for a DSL connection. The IP address must not be behind a company or personal firewall.
- Fixed Base Architecture
The base is installed in the user's premises at a permanent location. It is connected to the server (RTDS running on a PC) through a serial port.
- Mobile Base Architecture
The base is installed in the field at any location with GPRS coverage. It connects to RTDS through GPRS. With RTDS Magellan is adding a new way of building direct IP servers leveraging the high level of integration of the ProMark 500 receiver (built-in GPRS) and bringing a solution to solve UHF radio propagation issues in difficult environments (buildings, hills ,etc.)
